This dress was inspired by the mixture of the love story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare which
was filmed in 1968 and one of the whole bean coffee from Starbucks, Caffe Verona, where a snippet of a romantic
story can be found in the story of how the name originates.
Why am I Collaborating These Two?
Because to me Romeo and
Juliet symbolizes an eternal love and romance and Caffe Verona is known as the “coffee of love” and the fact that the
backstory of the name of the coffee has a relation with the romance of Romeo and
Juliet. Caffe Verona
itself symbolizes 'love and romance' because it's usually enjoyed
during night time (specifically after dinner). Coffee has become a substitute
for wine at dinner, and fits in well in pairing with anything containing
chocolate. Verona was previously
known by the name Jake's Blend
because this specific coffee used to be exclusively made only for a restaurant
named Jake's O Shaugnessy. This
coffee was also known as the 80/20 Blend.
And then it was renamed into Caffe Verona,
which was inspired by the bridge in Venicia.
Initially named as Venicia Romancesa,
then shortened to Verona. In correlation, Italy is also the place of origin of the
story Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
The Description of the Dress and Its Color Combination
Brown color on the pants under the dress, representing the
Verona flavor when the coffee is brewed. It will also create an essence of the chocolate
aroma and its sweetness. The color of gold, not only to express the scent of
chocolate, it will also shows the smooth caramel aroma. For the arms are gold
sparkles which represents the Coffee
Verona, which when brewed shows a goldish sparkle from the caramel.Broken white, adds the impression of a classical dresses and
is also popular in antiquity. For pink/magenta, I took from the existing pattern in
packaging for Caffe Verona to sweeten
its look.
Details
For the pants, I will apply the pattern found on the
packaging of Caffe Verona where there
are images of roses and a small triangles colored in pink. And then a unique
detail on the chest which I took from the little arrows which lies close to the
Caffe Verona’s label. I’ve collaborated this dress with the modern-day look by
adding pants since in the renaissance era pants are only to be worn by men. In
addition, when the person wearing this dress walks, the cloth in front of the
pants will sway like a curtain. Then for the arm, the cloth will hang down
whenever the person raises their hands. The neck collar would have a classical
look taken from the popular Sabrina,
and in addition I add accessories on the neck collar resembling a collar that
was used by men in the past. Not to forget the head, there is a small picture
of a rose-flop found on the packaging caffe verona (symbolizing goddess
aphrodite / goddess of love).
I really do hope to get into the courses at the Istituto di Moda Burgo because I have a huge desire to become a professional in the field
of fashion designers. It's a thing that I want battle myself into in my life.
I want to study the Italian kinds of fashion ways, because I really admire the
work of an Italian designer, Valentino. Judging from all the dresses and the
clothes that he has made, it really shows that this man knows very well on how
to dress a woman. Valentino inspired me and boosted my confidence to pursue my
dream of becoming a fashion designer. And in addition to my dream of visiting
Paris, it's also my dream to visit Milan as I like things that are related to
classic-look.
